Soy Sauce Substitute

If you suffer from hypertension (high blood pressure), soy sauce can potentially raise your blood pressure due to its high sodium content.   If you have any hormonal imbalances, especially hormone dependent cancer, you may want to avoid any form of soy like the plague.  In addition, 93 percent of soy in the United States is genetically modified and some companies use GMO soybeans to make their soy sauce.

If you’re looking for a healthier alternative to soy sauce with lower sodium content, you may want to check out coconut aminos.  There are two brands that I like:

1.) Coco Aminos from Big Tree Farms

2.) Coconut Aminos from Coconut Secret

Both brands are organic, gluten free, soy free and Non-GMO!

They typically retail around $6.  When raw or cooked recipes require soy sauce, I use coconut aminos instead.  They taste similar to soy sauce but with an extremely mild hint of sweetness.
