Who can resist the smell of popcorn? Depending on how it’s prepared, popcorn can be a healthy snack. However, it’s gotten a bad rep throughout the years because of the pesticides found in conventional (non-organic) popcorn. Microwave popcorn has added fuel to the fire. Studies have shown that perfluorooctanoic, a likely carcinogen, is present when the chemical coating in microwave popcorn bags are heated. In addition, diacetyl is found in the artificial butter flavoring. When heated, this chemical vaporizes and become toxic.
The healthiest option is to make your own organic popcorn..
I buy my organic popcorn kernels from the bulk section at Whole Foods. It doesn’t matter where you buy them, just make sure the kernels are organic.
You can make it on the stovetop…
Here’s a video that I came across on Youtube showing how to make popcorn on the stovetop:
OR
You can use a popcorn popper.
You can buy one at Target, Walmart or online.
Instead of pouring butter over my popcorn, I sometimes use a small amount of Unrefined Organic Coconut Oil and Himalayan Salt. Try sprinkling Nutritional Yeast to give it a cheesy flavor!
