Soft drinks…are they REALLY bad?

Soft drink companies splurge millions of dollars annually on hip advertisements to enthrall and enchant consumers with their products.  Soft drinks are at every gas station, fast-food restaurant, movie theater, grocery store, vending machine…they’re omnipresent.  It’s customary in our society for individuals to drink soda instead of water when one is thirsty.  How many sodas have you had today?  One, two, three or possibly a super-sized fountain drink?

Since soft drinks are ubiquitous and most people are consuming it, then it’s harmless, right?   A recent study  found that drinking two soft drinks a week doubles the risk of acquiring pancreatic cancer.  This is a cause for concern because most Americans consume four 8 ounce soft drinks a DAY!  According to medical doctors, pancreatic cancer is one of the most lethal cancers.  Why?  Pancreatic cancer has the highest death rate and is considered to be a silent killer.  In the vast majority of cases, noticeable signs or symptoms don’t occur until the disease is FAR advanced.

Signs and symptoms may include:

  • Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes)
  • Upper abdominal pain that may radiate to your back
  • Pale-colored stools and dark colored urine
  • Blood clots
  • Fat in the stool
  • Diarrhea
  • Unexplained weight loss

Keep in mind that other ailments and conditions may cause the same symptoms.  Aside from the study, let’s learn some other reasons why soft drinks could potentially be detrimental to our health…
